Helen B. Kobosky

Helen Bertha Kobosky, 92, of Decatur, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019, in her home. 

Helen was born July 31, 1926, in Danville, IL to James and Iva (Lappin) Jameson. She married Eugene Kobosky on March 19, 1944 in Danville, IL. He passed away October 20, 1993. Helen worked at the Decatur Clinic as the switchboard operator. She continued to attend and enjoy the annual Christmas party of former employees after it closed. 

Helen loved to read, garden and take long walks. Her main focus for her energy was, however, her family, her pride and joy. She loved little children so the grandchildren and great grandchildren provided many wonderful memories for her. Her neighbors, friends and family looked forward to her pumpkin bread, cole slaw and barbequed pork on a bun. She would make extra batches for family to take home.  

She lived her best life each day with a sense of humor, realism and acceptance. Her strength to deal with life situations as they arose will serve as an example to those who knew her. She will be missed. 

She is survived by her two daughters, Judy (Geoff) Nelson of Waterloo, Ontario and Jean Baugh of Denver, Colorado; three grandchildren, Nicole (Harald Kliems) Nelson, Dan (Elisa) Nelson and Laura (Lamont) Gittens; and five great-grandchildren, Keiran and Maya Nelson, Morgan, Winston and Harley Gittens. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her four siblings, Nick, Bill, Dorothy and Mary. 

Visitation to celebrate the life of Helen Kobosky will be 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Danville.

Oliver Parker Bayless

Oliver Parker Bayless, 9 months, of Decatur, IL passed into heaven with his family by his side, February 14, 2019. 

Oliver was born May 3, 2018 in Decatur, the son of, Colton and Hannah (Renfro) Bayless.  His parents will always remember him as their “Little Warrior”. 

Surviving are his parents, paternal grandparents, Brian and Michelle Bayless; maternal grandparents, Kent and Sandy Renfro and several aunts and uncles.

Michael R. Butler

Michael Ray Butler, 71, of Decatur, IL, passed away peacefully, February 13, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. 

Michael was born April 10, 1947 in Decatur, IL, the son of James and Eileen Butler.  He married Jody Lynn Nicol on July 3, 1966, in Decatur, IL. Michael was a painter for Caterpillar Inc, from 1966 to 1998 retiring after 32 years of service. 

Michael had owned several Classic Cars during his lifetime and loved working on and showing them.  During his leisure, he was a sports enthusiast and favored his favorite teams, Illini and the St. Louis Cardinals. 

Surviving are his wife, Jody; children, Heather Ann Strocher (Tim) of Cerro Gordo, Lara Lynn Conaway (Lonnie) of Decatur, James Michael Butler (Christina of Decatur; brother, James Savage (Ann) of Sun City, FL; sister, Sandy Herndon of Kapaa, Kauai, HI; grandchildren, Cody Michael Long (Heather Wren), Shelby Long, Niki Crawley ( James), Caira Butler, Jacob Michael Butler, Kaitlynn Butler; great-grandchildren, Ava, Layla, Tyson, Hunter Michael, Blaedyn, Mia, Maylei and Winter Skye. 

Preceding in death are his parents and sister, Kathryn Sue Butler. 

Funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Monday, February 18, 2019 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held from 5 – 7 PM Sunday, February 17, 2019 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home.

Patricia Roderick

Patricia Rose Roderick, 86, of Decatur, went to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. 

Patricia was born December 1, 1932 in Springfield, IL to Dwight and Pearl (Stogdill) Westbrook. She married Donald Leroy Roderick on September 11, 1949. She was a member of Harvest Christian Church. Patricia loved spending time with family and loved to travel and shop. 

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Donald; four daughters, Sue (Jim) Gillen, Donna Sullivan, Debbie (Bob) Crawford and Jill Blue all of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert and Chuck Westbrook; three sisters, Norma Jewell, Shirley Shultz and Beverly Montgomery; one grandson, Todd Gillen and one great-grandchild, Tanner Gillen.

James “Vernon” Allen Sr.

James “Vernon” Allen Sr., 79, of Brownsville, Tennessee, formerly of Decatur, passed away Monday, February 11, 2019.

James was born September 2, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee, the son of Joshua and Henrietta (Cooper) Allen.  He married Dollie Mae Blair on January 19, 1960 in Brownsville, Tennessee.

Survivors include his wife, Dollie Mae Blair; three sons, Donald (Charolette) Allen of Jackson, Tennessee; Michael (Hattie) Allen of Jackson, Tennessee; and Marquis Dennis of Evansville, Indiana; a daughter, Brenda (Willie) Adams of Brownsville, Tennessee; two sisters, Etta Mary Allen and Suzette Allen of Decatur; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; special friends: Roger and Linda Wilson of Texas; and Chester Stepney of Decatur.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; a brother, Noah Allen; a sister, Margaret Taylor; a son, James Allen, Jr.; and a longtime friend, Henrietta Wilson.

Vernon was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tennessee.  He enjoyed fishing,cooking, watching western movies and baseball.  James worked at Wagner Casting Company for several years.

Homegoing services to celebrate the life of James “Vernon” Allen, Sr. will be noon, at Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur with the Rev. Jimmy Waddell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Jan Marie Fisher-Jones

Jan Marie Fisher-Jones, 58, of Decatur, passed away Monday morning, February 11, 2019, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side. 

Jan was born October 11, 1960, in Decatur, IL to Charles Lee and Alice Carol (Hickenbottom) Fisher. She married Michael Clark Jones on August 11, 2000, in Decatur, IL. Jan was a longtime member of AA and celebrated 20 plus years of sobriety. She loved puzzle books and arts and crafts. 

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Mike; her two children, Gary Fisher and Katy (Mike) Covey both of Decatur; her mother, Alice Fisher of Mt. Zion; her ten grandchildren, Yana, Matt, Bryson, Kylan, Nicole, Ashley, Ryan, Bryan, Brittney and Hailey; her great-grandchild, Syana; and two brothers, Chuck (Lori Heise) Fisher of Decatur and Jimmy (Tracey) Fisher of Mt. Zion, IL. 

She was preceded in death by her father; her daughter, Yana Marie; and her sister, Penny Smith. 

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jan Marie Fisher-Jones will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. F. Duane Boriff

Decatur – F. Duane Boriff, 86, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2019 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Duane was born October 31, 1932 in Grundy County, MO, the son of Forrest G. and Elnora (Wood) Boriff. He graduated from Trenton High School, attended Trenton Junior College and the University of Illinois. Duane then joined the U.S. Army serving from February 1953 until February 1955 spending 16 months in Korea. He worked as an engineer at Caterpillar retiring in 1990 after 35 years. He was a member of Chapter 21 Korean War Veterans Association, American Legion, 10 year member of Macon County Honor Guard, Golden K Kiwanis, Elks and Moose. Duane was an active assistant coach of girls’ softball teams. He loved to golf and ballroom dance. He married Nancy Ann Woodruff on November 22, 1958 in Decatur.

Duane is survived by his wife, Nancy of Decatur; children: Robert (Tanya) Boriff of Decatur and Diane Otta of Decatur; grandchildren: Brialynn Boriff, Shelby Otta and Courtney Boriff; great grandsons: Bryer and Mason Ellrick; step-grandchildren: Brittany Mathias and Trenton Brennan.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Glenda Doty and Pauline Mills.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 pm Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Graveside services with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be 11 am Thursday, February 14, 2019 at North Fork Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Macon County Honor Guard or Golden K Kiwanis.
