Dorothy Jane Waltz, 78, of Decatur, died Friday, January 12, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side.

A Celebration of Life will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday January 16, 2018 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Casual attire requested. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Dorothy was born January 7, 1940 in Decatur, the daughter of Ellsworth Hill and Lucille (Kern) Bechtel. Dorothy was a retired housekeeper from St. Mary’s Hospital. She married Richard Waltz on January 7, 1962. He preceded her in death in 1992.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She enjoyed bingo and gambling, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids and family.

Surviving are her children: Michael Waltz of Decatur, Laura (Scott) Maxwell of Decatur, and Char (Jeff) Brooks of Moweaqua; grandchildren: Matthew Maxwell, Kayla and Lane Brooks, and Cindy Hinkle; great-grandchildren: Jordan and Elizabeth; sister: Phyllis (Robert) Jackson of Florida; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard, parents, two brothers, four sisters, and beloved dog Sparky.

The family would like to thank St. Mary’s sixth floor nursing staff, especially Monica and Kate.

  1. Aunt Dorothy was one of a kind and had the biggest heart ever. No matter what, her door was always open. Loved her to pieces and she will be dearly missed. Thoughts and prayers Laura & Char. We love you!

Dorthy was one of my good friends..she was one of the best persons i know she took me under her wing when i frist met her at work.she was one of the kindest person anyone could know, we became very good friends she loved her family we often talked about how kayla and her cousin looked like brother and sister lol i will forever miss her i loved her very much she will always be in my heart. Heaven gained another Angel.

  4. Sad to hear of Dorthys passing. She was a wonderful lady. She was one that if you didn't
    like her you were not human. She was good to all that entered her home. I shared a lot of great memories with the family. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike,Lara,and Char. Your mom will be missed.
