Geraldine “Jerry” Schmidt, 87, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Jerry was born on November 23, 1929 in Moweaqua, IL the daughter of William and Bonnie (Sharp) Caudill. She was a member of the Castle William American Legion Post #105 Auxiliary. She married George H. Schmidt on May 7, 1949 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on January 10, 1991.
Surviving are her sons, Tim Schmidt of Taylorville; Fred Schmidt of Decatur; daughter, Debbie Hoaglin (Richard) of Wesson, MS; grandchildren, Tia Davis (Chris) of Wesson,. MS; Kent Hoaglin of Sumrall, MS; Heather Hess (Dave) of Oconomowoc, WI; Peyton Schmidt of Decatur; six great-grandchildren, and special friend Jim Parker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Bill Caudill.
Graveside service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be 10 AM Saturday June 17, 2017 in Macon County Memorial Park followed by a celebration of life hosted by the family at Castle William American Legion Post #105. Memorials are suggested to the Macon County Honor Guard.

  1. I've known Jerry since high school when I went to the legion with my grandparents. Then in the 80s I attended many parties and dances with my dad's friends which included Jerry and Jim. I will miss her dearly.

  2. Gerry and George were such a neat couple. My sincere sympathy to her family; I will miss seeing her at the American Legion and the grocery store!
