Gregory Carl Muench, 79, of Decatur, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, with his family by his side.

Greg was born September 29, 1938, in Waukee, Iowa, to Carl Deus and Mary Byrdell (McNeil) Muench. He married Aileen Elizabeth Taylor on January 21, 1971, in Toledo, Ohio. Greg retired from ADM as a grain trader after many years. He loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Aileen; his four children, Carl Muench of Decatur, IL Cindy (Lindsay) Polette of St. Louis, MO, Sue (Greg) Miller of Milton, GA and Brenda (Terry) Frank of Forsyth, IL; his four grandchildren, Jason (Miranda) Miller, Sean (Lindsey) Miller, Tyler Frank, Taylor (Abby Holtgrave) Frank; one furry granddog, Lucky; his two sisters, Winonah (Bob) Doty of Van Meter, IA and Minna (Chuck) Wonderlin of Titusville, FL; his sister-in-law, Lyn Muench of Port Angeles, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Louis H. Muench.

Visitation services to celebrate the life of Gregory Muench will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Scovill Zoo 71 S Country Club Rd, Decatur, IL 62521.

  1. Greg and I were good friends and classmates at Waukee Community High School. His brother Louis was a classmate of my wife Kyla. We were saddened to learn of Greg’s passing and send our condolences to his family.

  2. Our Dad was Superman to us. He taught us to be respectful, responsible people and gave us a great life. Everyone who met him fell in love with and respected him. He made us laugh and was the smartest person on earth. You could ask him anything and he new the answer. We are all heart broken that he had to leave us but will always love him. He was the best father anyone could have. We would have done anything for him. We love you Dad!

  3. We have known Greg and Aileen and family since the early 70's, worked with Greg in Cincinnati and Fort Wayne with Central Soya. He was my mentor and good friend through our careers. They including us in fun and memorable social activities. Greg was a excellent businessman and a very good friend. Love Susan and Al Anderson.
