Decatur – Helen S. Craig, 97, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Helen was born in September 8, 1920, in Mason City, IA, the daughter of William and Mary (McGee) Nugent. She married Robert D. “Bob” Craig, January 24, 1948, in Decatur. Helen worked as a bookkeeper/administrative assistant for Citizens Bank and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Surviving is her husband, Bob of Decatur; daughters: Karen (Jim) Corrigan of Western Springs, Kathy (Terry) Gainer and Carol Ekiss of Decatur; grandchildren: Colleen (Bill) Hiles, Jim Corrigan, Jr., Mike (Kristen) Corrigan, Shawn Gainer, Nick (Kate) Quealy-Gainer, Brian Ekiss and Craig Ekiss; great grandchildren: Ella, Ben and Luke Hiles, and Grace, Aubri Gainer and Henry and Felix Quealy-Gainer; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; son Kevin; three sisters and four brothers.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Helen’s life will be 2 PM, Monday, October 9, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; visitation will be one hour before in the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

  1. This is a photo of Aunt Helen's two sisters taken Jan-Feb 2001 in Orange Beach, AL in the lobby of a Phoenix High rise condo. The sisters were sharing the condo with Dean and Helen. I remember Helen telling us that they got a "DELUXE" upgrade on the rental (a 3-bedroom as I remember).

  2. Mardi Gras in Orange Beach, AL 2004 when Karen, Kathy and Carol came down for the weekend. We all had fun catching beads and candy!

    So sorry for Helen's passing, but know that she lived a long and loving life of which all of you made her wonderful wife and mother….so glad we got to see her again at the Reunion and she'll always be remembered by us and so many others. We understand what you're going thru and know that we are praying with you and love you guys so much.

  4. Dean, We were so sad to hear about Helen. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you and your family. We feel so blessed to have seen and talked with Helen at the 39th annual Craig reunion in August. We know she will be missed by so many!
