Joan Darlene Colbert

Decatur-Joan Darlene Colbert, 81, of Decatur, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.

Joan was born September 3, 1935 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Bieber) Erickson. She was raised in Decatur and Joliet. Joan graduated from Joliet Township High School. She was a homemaker and had a home day care for over twenty years. She enjoyed working with ceramics but her greatest devotion was to her family especially her grandchildren. Joan married Henry W. Colbert Jr. on June 20, 1954. He preceded her in death January 15, 2017.

Joan leaves behind her children Mark Colbert, Lori (Riff) Yeager, Brian (Stephanie) Colbert, and Thomas (Kimberly) Colbert, sister Patty Barnes, thirteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Joan was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, brother Ronald Erickson, sisters Betty Salefski and Bonnie Wichert, and grandson Brandon Colbert.

Services to celebrate Joan’s life will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 21, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2727 North Union Blvd Decatur. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
