Oreana-Michael E. Spent, 70, of Oreana passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 in his home with his family by his side.

Michael was born March 3, 1947 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of William and Louisa (Catteau) Spent Sr. He served as road commissioner in Whitmore Township for twenty years. Michael was a member of the Moose and Elks and enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, and NASCAR especially Dale Jr.

Surviving is the love of his life Jean, children Steven Spent and Shelly, Julie Briggeman, and Joseph Spent, brother William Spent Jr. and wife Donna, grandchildren Caylee, Cayden, Brooklynn, Tabatha and husband Dominic, and Jessica and husband Gavin, four great-grandchildren, and special friend Mark Rade and wife Rhonda.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 6, 2017 in Union Cemetery.

  1. Steve, Shelley and Miss Jean – I remember Mike listening to a young college rock band practice in his basement. He was drinking a cold beer and nodding his head. When we asked him how we sounded, his reply "Boys I'm gonna be your manager!"

    What a great guy he was and definitely made me feel at home. Always a great laugh. Praying for your family during this time of loss. Always loved the Spents.
