Milford E Sarff

Birth Date: November 11, 1925
Death Date: September 18, 2017

Milford Edison Sarff, formerly of Kilbourne, went to be with the Lord on September 18th, 2017. Mif was born on November 11, 1928 in Chandlerville, IL. He was the son of Edison and Leon Sarff. Mif married Bernadine Austin on April 23rd, 1950 in Cropsey. They have three sons, Mark (Jeanie), Eric (Julie) and Kirk (Amy). Mif has a brother Max (Beverly) and Aunt Vivian; 10 Grandchildren, Jayme, Brooke, Meghan, Matt, Jessica, Ben, Chris, Carly, Bailey and Delaney. Mif also has 7 great-grandchildren.
Mif served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the Masonic organization. Mif is a member of the IBCA Basketball Hall of Fame and a member of Havana united Methodist Church.
Mif was a successful business owner of a Shell gas station. He provided bulk fuel and tire services for many local farmers. The service he provided was valued by all.
Mif and Bernie NEVER missed their sons’ games, track meets and any activity they were involved in through the years. Mif was known for many things… love for his family, his faith, being an avid Cub fan, who was able to experience a World Championship, the firm handshake, holding court most Friday mornings at coffee, relentless work ethic, integrity, always putting others first and his blue eyes (that every nurse at DMH went on and on about).
Mif was a great mentor for his family and his legacy will last forever through his family and the generations to come.
A memorial service will be held on September 24 at 1p.m. in the Victorian Woods Community room located at 3910 West Main Street, Decatur, IL. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mif’s name may be made to St. Judes.
The family of Milford Sarff is being served by Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Ave. Decatur, IL. Please view the online obituary, send condolences, and share memories at

  2. Such an amazing extended family over the years and so many memories from time spent in Arizona to time with you next door and at Lake Petersburg. Mif always had a smile and always had time to talk and listen. He will be missed by so many. You are all always in my prayers. Jan Cormier

  3. Sarff family, I remember how hard Uncle Mif worked when he had the gas station and when he let me store my Camaro there during the winter for a few years. I have no idea how many basketball games he and Aunt Bernie went to or how many miles they logged but it was amazing. I think they even had an article in the Decatur paper about them. He was a kind person with a big passion for life. We will truly miss him.

  4. So sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Started our first Shell station thru Mif and Do Wieber in 1960, and would not have made it without their help. Truly a good person.

  5. Mark, Eric, and Kirk-your family is in our thoughts and prayers not only today but in the days to come. Your Dad was a wonderful person and I don't think there is a single soul in the Bath, Kilbourne, Havana area that didn't know Mif Sarff! Many, many memories flooded my mind of days gone by, from seeing him at every sporting event possible, to the many stops at the gas station while riding back and forth to Springfield with my Mom to work and listening to him and Mom banter back and forth about the Cubs vs. Cardinals! I know how difficult these days are and just hope that you find peace in knowing he is with the Lord. God Bless, Rod and Becky King

  6. We at DMH Hospice send our deepest condolences to your family. We thank you for allowing us to care for Milford and for you during this difficult time. We will continue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers and will be in touch to offer grief care. We are still here for you.

    The DMH Hospice Team

  7. Eric, so sorry to hear of your dad' passing. He was a wonderful person to know and I'm sure he will be missed by many. His love for his family was tremendous! Many, many memories were created by this man and his love for life! – Casey & Tricia Duncheon
