Roy Russell

Roy Russell, 86, of Decatur, IL, passed away August 13, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. 

Roy was born September 11, 1931 in Sulphur Lick, KY, the son of Carter and Laura (Frazier) Russell.  He married Norma Binkley on December 17, 1975 in Decatur, IL.  

Roy was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean War era.  He worked as a train dispatcher for Norfolk Southern Railroad. 

Roy was a Life Member of American Legion Post #105 and Life Member and Past commander of VFW Post # 99. 

Surviving are his wife, Norma; step children, Chuck Binkley (Diane) of Decatur, IL, Johnny Ray Binkley (Debbie) of Decatur, IL; five grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by both of his parents, one brother, four sisters and one grandchild. 

Graveside funeral services will be held, 2:00 PM Friday, August 17, 2018 at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. 

Memorials: Donor’s Choice.

    We have been out of town and just returned to learn of Roy’s passing. We always enjoyed your visits and Joe particularly enjoyed Red’s recollection of N&W (NS) stories. We will miss those visits.

  2. We are deeply sadden by the loss of our comrade Roy Russell. Roy was an extremely an important part of the Oren L. Davis VFW Post #99 here in Decatur, IL (the oldest post in Illinois)….He was a wonderful and caring past Commander. He served his country and the VFW with great pride. We will miss him deeply. RIP Comrade Russell and thank you for your service to God and Country. God bless the USA!
