Shirley Ann Davidson passed away peacefully on October 27, 2017, at the age of 80.
Shirley was born in Litchfield, IL, on September 25, 1937, the daughter of Opal and Carl Painter. Shirley earned her LPN through Decatur Vocational Center in 1972. Later, she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital and for Dr. Frank Snell.
Shirley was an active member of First Baptist Church of Decatur, singing in the choir, attending prayer groups and Bible study. She loved traveling to Branson, MO, and going to the beach with her family, as well as antiquing and gardening with her husband. Shirley especially loved Christmas.
Shirley married Duane Dudley on October 14, 1955, and together they had three children. She married Jack Davidson in 1975, and late in their lives, they adopted a son.
Shirley is survived by her husband Jack Davidson of Decatur, her children, Debbie (Michael) Morlock of Decatur, Richard Dudley of Decatur, and Jacob Davidson; step-children, Pamela (Robert) Marshall of Atlanta, GA, Patty (Paul) Martin of Decatur, Doug (Norma) Davidson of Decatur, Penny (Mark) Weaver of Decatur, and Susan York of Decatur. Shirley is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Cynthia Parish, and her brothers, Carl Painter, Jr., John Painter and Thomas Painter.
A special thank you to Lincolnshire Place and Safe Haven Hospice for their compassionate and loving care of Shirley during her battle with Alzheimer’s, and for their invaluable support to her family.
Visitation will be held at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home at 1pm, Tuesday, October 31, 2017, followed by a Celebration of Life at 2pm. Graveside service will immediately follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Decatur, IL, and the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
