DECATUR – Susan May Rhodes, 66, of Decatur, IL passed away at 8:20 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in her home, surrounded by her family.
Susan was born May 8, 1950, in Vandalia, IL, daughter of Gustav G. and Luella M. (Hinrichs) Lange. She married David L. Rhodes July 25, 1970, in Decatur.
Susan worked at A.E. Staley/Tate & Lyle for 46 years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Decatur and enjoyed working in the yard, cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid Cubs fan and treasured watching them win the World Series in 2016.
Surviving are her husband: David of Decatur, IL; daughters Emily Rhodes (Paul Marchand) of Belleville, IL; Rachel Melton (Darren) of Decatur, IL and son, Josh Rhodes (Amber) of Bloomington, IL; mother, Luella Lange of Decatur. Susan has four grandchildren: Jacob, Morgan & Colby Melton and Isabella Susan Marchand; brother, Stan Lange and sister, Kathy Zeurcher, both of Decatur.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Gustav G. Lange.
The family would like to thank Dr. Velasco, special nurses Lynnette & Allison and DMH Hospice nurse, Becky.
Funeral services to celebrate Susan’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday before the service at the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear of Susan's passing. We went to Stephen Decatur High School together. She was such a sweet person! My prayers are with her family.

  2. I was so sorry to hear of Sue's death. We worked together for many years at Staley/ Tate&Lyle. She was a wonderful person.
