Thomas Leon Jones

T. Leon Jones, 89, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018, at Fair Havens Christian Home.

Leon was born April 1, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Frank Wister and Abie Celeste (Harris) Jones. He married Lois May Brockway in 1953. She passed away in 1992. Leon was a clerk for 38 ½ years for Staley’s and was also a clerk for Metzler/ Continental Coffee for 25 years. He was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 40 years, Macon 8, Eastern Star of Maroa, Red Cross, Dove, GED Programs and he played Santa Claus for many years at the Hickory Point Mall and Central Park Square, downtown Decatur. He was an ordained minister and a lay speaker. 

He is survived by his five children, David Jones of California, Jeffrey “Casey” (Becky) Jones of Illinois, Barbara Scarlett of Illinois, Frank (Sheila) Jones of California and Michael (Laura) Jones of Louisiana; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother; and 2 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Dimondo, Dr. Minnagant, Fair Havens Christian Village, Decatur Memorial Hospital 4th Floor Staff, Decatur Memorial Hospital IMC Staff and Decatur Memorial Hospital ICU Staff. 

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Leon Jones will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, at Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday before the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
