Betty Jo Dean, 72, of Decatur, passed away February 2, 2022 in her home. Betty was born in Savanna, IL on July 21, 1949, the daughter of Jake and Alma (Shaw) Engelkens. She was a cook at Fair Haven Christian Home. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church. In addition to being a die-hard Cubs fan, she enjoyed reading, watching TV, eating out, and spending time with her grandchildren. Betty is survived by her children Katherine Bussie and Kimberly (Tim) Ross of Alton, IL; siblings Ruby Jean (Keith) Tegeler of Fulton, IL, Walter Engelkens of Clinton, IA, Raymond Engelkens of Decatur, IL, and Juanita Neher of TX; grandchildren Samantha (Zeb) Watson, Jared Bussie, Codey Spencer, and Kaitlin Bussie; and great-grandchildren Ethan Watson, McKinley Watson, and Rylie Watson. She was preceded in death by her parents. Visitation for Betty will be at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home from 10am to 11am on Friday, February 11, followed by a funeral service at 11am. Burial will take place at Graceland Cemetery after the service. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
