Janice L. Carter

Arkansas – Janice L. (Jones) Carter, 86, of Gassville, AR, formerly of Decatur, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022. Janice was born August 7, 1935, in Effingham, IL, a daughter of Albert and Tressa (Cohea) Hockman. While in Decatur, Janice was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she drove the bus picking up members for services. In Arkansas, she was a member of the Cowboy Church. She worked as a hostess at local McDonald’s restaurants before retiring. She married Allen Jones and he preceded her in death. She then married John Carter on June 21, 2003. Surviving is her husband, John, of Gassville, AR; children: Steve Jones of Flagstaff, AZ, Patty Ernst of Helena, AL, Jim Jones of Decatur, IL, Dennis (Stephanie) Jones of South Abilene, TX, Kevin (Genny) Jones of Latham, IL, Tina (John) Elliott of Harristown, IL, and Jeff Jones of Blue Mound, IL; eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hockman of Quincy, IL; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her first husband, her parents, one brother, Robert Hockman, two sisters: Helen Owens and Nina Everett, and one son Larry Jones. Special thank you goes to Ron and Debbie Weaver for assisting John while caring for Janice for the last several years. Graveside services will be 2 pm, Friday, February 4, 2022, at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
