Rex V Poe

Rex V. Poe passed away on June 17, 2022. He was 88 years old. Rex was retired from Gates & Johnson's Roofing Company and a member of the Roofers Union Local #97 for 64 years. As a young man, Rex joined the United States Army where he was stationed at the Granite City Engineers Depot. He was awarded a Commendation for the fabrication and completion of the Omaha Beach Project. He married the love of his life Carolyn Forsythe in 1958. His love for his family was evident in everything that he did. They were truly the light of his life. He loved road trips, going to the mountains, and fishing trips. He is survived by his son, Rex E. Poe; daughter, Yvonne (Rich) Mulligan; grandchildren, Amanda (Marshall) Leitem, Jennifer Poe, Ryan (Courtney) Poe, Josh (Amy) Mulligan and Sara Mulligan (Natu Visinia); great-grandchildren, Ava, Ryder, Parker, Anna and Hadley; brother, Larry (Janet) Poe; sister, Wilma Verrill and sister-in-law, Donna Poe as well as many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Poe; parents, Roy and Bertha Poe; brother, Richard Poe and sister, Vera (John) Eschbaugh. A visitation for Rex will be held at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 12pm to 1pm. A funeral service will also be at Graceland at 1pm with a burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. In Lieu of flower please make donations to South Wheatland Fire Department or the Illinois Raptor Center. The family requests that everyone please dress in casual attire.
