A. Elaine Mason's Obituary
Maroa – A. Elaine Mason, 89, of Maroa, formerly of Decatur, passed away Thursday evening, January 29, 2015 at Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family.
Elaine was born November 18, 1925 in Decatur to William D. and Alta E. (Lyons) Hedenberg. She married William Henry Mason on December 5, 1948 in Decatur. He passed away October 8, 1989. Elaine and her husband owned and operated the Mason’s Restaurant in Maroa for many years and their homemade food is still the talk of the town. She was a member of the Red Hats, volunteered at Dove, Lincoln Manor and Love Unlimited. She loved gardening, flowers and remodeling houses even in her later years. She was a strong woman that loved the Lord and was so grateful for her family. She was always in good spirits and cared for everyone who came into her life and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelly (Bryan) Espy of Maroa; two step-children, Jerry Mason and Wanda Shelley both of Decatur; five grandchildren, Misty (Mike Vaughn) Espy, Brittany Espy, Hayley (Trevor Morrison) Espy, Kaleb Roberts and Amanda Seper; three great-grandchildren, Addyson, Dakota and Jaxson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; one son, Stephen Mason; one step-son, Kenneth Mason; two brothers, Elmer and Marlin Hedenberg; and five sisters, Mildred Giliam, Verna Collier, Patricia Beard, Maria Tomlinson and infant sister, Lilia Hedenberg; and her dear friend, Dorothy Lawger.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of A. Elaine Mason will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 2, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
