Mt. Zion- Alan W. Goodwin, passed away at 3:22 am Wednesday, November 16, 2011 in Carle Foundation Hospital surrounded by his family.
Services to celebrate Alan's life will be held at 11 am Saturday, November 19, 2011 in the chapel of Moran and Goebel Funeral Home, conducted by Pastor David Catron. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 Friday evening at the Moran and Goebel Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services. Interment with the 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Alan was born on April 18, 1965 in Champaign, IL. a son of Charles and Theora 'Terry' (Brown) Goodwin. He married Lisa J. Coventry on October 16, 1987 in Decatur. Alan was the owner of A-1 Construction in Mt. Zion. He loved the Chicago Bears and collected Bears memorabilia of all kinds. Alan had been a member of the Gold Wing Motorcycle Club. He took great pride in his yard and loved to cook in his Viking kitchen for his family and friends. He enjoyed taking vacations with his family and traveling. Alan was very patriotic and had a special love for the ocean and Dell's popcorn. He was very proud to watch and cheer for his son Blake during his football games. His favorite holiday was Christmas where he was able to decorate his entire house and spoil his family and those less fortunate.
Alan is survived by his loving wife Lisa, daughters- Courtney and her husband Blake Beard of Dayton, TN., and Ashley and her husband Joshua Dunham of Virginia Beach, VA, son- Blake at home, he took great pride and loved to spend time with his grandson Seth Alan, step-mother- Sue Goodwin of Marion, IL, brothers- Tom Goodwin and wife Carol of Peoria, Ray Goodwin of Decatur, sister- Linda and her husband Brian Trusty of Joliet, mother-in-law- Janice Coventry of Decatur, brother-in-law- William A. Coventry, Jr. and wife Cindy of Orlando, FL., sister-in-law- Lela A. Kirgan and husband Steve of Littleton, CO., sister-in-law- Linda K. Augustine and husband Michael of Indianapolis, and close friends- Riley and Julie Cox and Dwayne and Mitzy Kortz and special friend Cheryl Bryson. He is also survived by his special pets- Yoda, Diva and Guizmo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law- William A. 'Bill' Coventry.
The family would like to give special thanks to the doctors, nurses and entire staff at the SICU department of Carle Hospital for all their tireless dedication, support and care they gave Alan and his family.
