Allen Wright's Obituary
Decatur-Allen Wright, 80, of Decatur, passed away at 9:27 a.m. Monday, September 30, 2013, in Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Allen was born March 7, 1933 in Maroa, Illinois, the son of Kenneth E. and Helen A. Wright. He married Mary Alice Cherry in 1951. They had a daughter Teri L. (Wright) Easterling who preceded him in death in 2003. He has one sister, Sonnie Moore of Decatur, who loved him as her best friend and second father.
Allen was employed at Caterpillar, Inc. for thirty years retiring in 1992. He also worked at Burks Pumps, Clinton Power Station, and a family owned service station with his father in the 1950’s. He was a member of First Christian Church since 1951. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Chapter 58 of Decatur for forty-six years and served as an Executive Board member since 1967. He was also a member of the Caterpillar Retirement Club.
Allen loved playing golf, working in his yard, caring for his autos, reading and spending time with his family and friends. He loved animals and was devoted to his daughter’s and sister’s pets. He always found time to help family, friends, and a neighbor in need.
He leaves behind his wife Mary, sister, Sonnie Moore, sister-in-law Barbara Buchanan and husband Russell of Mt. Juliet, TN, brother-in-law Bill Leake and wife Phyliss of Punta Gorda, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, daughter Teri, brother-in-law George Moore, sister-in-law Dori Leake, mother and father-in-law Loveta and Tom Kiernan, and niece, Vicki Cornell.
The family would like to thank Doctors P. Guaglianone, D. Patel, G. Patel, S. Arnold, and Dr. West and the nurses and staff of DMH fourth floor for all of their guidance and compassionate care. Also a special thanks to First Christian Church for all of their support.
Graveside services to celebrate Allen’s life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers it would have pleased Allen to know you made a memorial contribution in his name to Homeward Bound Pet Shelter, 1720 Huston Dr. Decatur, IL, 62526.
