Alma Jean Bird's Obituary
Jean Bird, 91, of Decatur, Illinois joined our Lord on February 23, 2012 while at Sunrise Senior Living of Worthington, Ohio.
She was born January 18, 1921 in La Place, IL, the daughter of Burl and Glee Merritt. She married Harold R. Bird November 23, 1940 in Bowling Green, MO Harold and Jean lived in Southern California during World War II. Harold Bird worked in the shipyards and welded P.T. Boats. Jean Bird worked at Peerless Cleaners in Los Angeles, CA. While living in California, the couple was blessed by the birth of their daughter, Barbara. In 1944, Harold and Jean moved their family back to Decatur Illinois. Shortly after their return, they were blessed with their son, Van Bird. Jean and Harold owned and operated Peerless Cleaners for approximately 34 years. Jean was a member of Central Christian Church, Zonta International and South Side Country Club. Jean and Harold enjoyed 63 years of marriage. Jean Bird loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed golfing and traveling. She was an excellent artist, enjoyed reading and playing cards.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold, son, Van Bird, and son in law, Ron Hunt (her daughter, Barbara’s, husband).
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Hunt; daughter- in- law, Nancy Daniel Bird; three grandchildren, Ronda Siniff (Paul), Brian Hunt and David Hunt (Jeannie) and three great-grandchildren, Delaney, Reagan and Garrison.
A service to celebrate Jean's life will be 11:00 am Thursday, March 1, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 ' 11:00 am Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will be in North Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Odyssey Hospice, 540 Office Center Place, Gahanna, Ohio 43230.
