Alma L. Piekutowski's Obituary
Alma L. Piekutowski, 87, of Decatur, passed away on Friday, August 3 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Alma had been a resident of Imboden Gardens Assisted Living.
Alma was born December 8, 1924 to Jessie Freidrich and Myrtle Alice (Jay) Eyer in Decatur, IL. She married Willard R. Best in 1941. He preceded her in death in August of 1944. She married Thomas A. Piekutowski on November 14, 1947.
Alma enjoyed spending time with her family. As her children were growing up she was involved in many of the organizations they were in, including boy scouts and girl scouts as well as volunteering many hours at the school libraries, PTA, and as a room mother. In 1974 the family moved to Champaign, Illinois. She retired from Edison Middle School in Champaign, Illinois, in 1989 and later returned to her hometown of Decatur.
Alma leaves behind her sons; Willard (Rose) Best of Decatur, Mark Piekutowski of O'Fallon, Illinois, daughter Teresa (Richard) Barbercheck of Columbus, Indiana; and one sister, Leona Varner of Ursa, Illinois, 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Alma was reunited in heaven with her husband of over 62 years, Thomas; their son, Tom Piekutowski, Jr.; her brothers, Fritz and Ralph and sisters, May, Juanita, Lucille and Marie.
A graveside service will be held 10A.M. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Graceland Cemetery with a 'Flight Home' ceremony. Memorial contributions may be directed to Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois (www.CancerCareSpecialists.org).
