Alvin Jones Jr.'s Obituary
Alvin Jones, Jr, 82, of Decatur, IL fondly known as “Newt”, passed away May 1, 2019 at Fair Havens Christian Home.
Alvin was born September 30, 1936, in Brownsville, TN, the son of Henry and Verene (Rhodes) Jones. He married Lennie Ruth Perkins on October 14, 1956 in Tennessee.
Alvin was a furnace operator for 30 plus years at Wagner Casting. After his retirement he worked for a lawn care service. He was a faithful member at Community Temple Church of God in Christ where he served as a deacon under Bishop Wille F. Newbon and later under Pastor Andrei Newbon.
During his leisure time he enjoyed walking and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his children, Albert Jones, Stanley Jones, Brenda Jones-Smith, Dwayne Jones (Sandy), Vernadene Wells (Eddie), Dianne Jones, Alvin Lamont Jones, Charlotte Johnson (Jodie) of Decatur, IL, Donell Jones (Debra) of Mableton, GA, Toyee Manns-Thomas (Clarence) of Chicago; 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Alvin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lennie; parents; brothers, Thomas “Sonny” Jones, James “Peppy” Jones; sister, Emma Hines, and son-in-law, John Smith.
Homegoing funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Community Temple Church of God in Christ, 759 S. Jackson St. Decatur, IL. Visitation will be from 11:00 – 12 noon, Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at the church. Entombment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
