Amalia Rivas' Obituary
Decatur – Amalia Rivas, 90, of Decatur, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023.
Amalia was born July 7, 1933, in Rivas, Nicaragua, the daughter of Cesar Rivas and Maria (Urtecho) Rivas. She lived in Rivas until the age of 50, residing in Decatur for the remainder of her life.
She had a voice of an angel often singing for private ceremonies, weddings, “Ava Maria” being one of her favorites to sing. She also enjoyed crafts such as embroidery. She admired and appreciated the beauty of nature, her favorite time of the year being when spring flowers came back to life and the turning of the leaves in fall. She also enjoyed taking care of her plants.
Amalia lived with her sister Zelmira, who took loving care of her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Cesar and Maria Urtecho Rivas, infant sister, nephew Michael Rivas, and great nephew Christopher Gutierrez.
Surviving are her sisters: Acte Gutierrez, and Zelmira Rivas; brother Alejandro Rivas (Beverly). Nephews: Mauricio Gutierrez (Julie) and Christopher Rivas (Margaret); Nieces: Soraya Hiser (Dan)) and Desiree Renfro (John). Great nieces and nephews: Henry, Garett, Samuel, Riley, Lane, Emma, and Carter.
Funeral mass will be 11am, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Holy Family Catholic Church; visitation will be one hour before the mass. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
