Decatur'Ammon Samson” Sam” Robinson, 93, of Decatur passed away Friday, November 18, 2011 at Heartland Health Care of Decatur.
A graveside service to celebrate Sam's life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Graceland Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Life Foursquare Church.
Sam was born October 25, 1918, the son of William and Dora (Hagan) Robinson. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII from 1944-1946 aboard the USS McIntyre. Sam worked at A.E. Staley from June 19th, 1937 until his retirement on June 19th, 1987. He received several awards while at Staley’s including 50 years without a sick day and never being late to work. He was an original worker at the 44 Building. He was a lifetime member of Life Foursquare Church, serving as an Usher, Deacon, Elder, and Council Member. He married the love of his life Verna (Dowd) Robinson on July 29, 1939 in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death October 12, 1989.
He leaves behind daughter, Nancy E. (Ira) Nation; sister, Verna Starr; grandchildren, Virginia E. Paslay, and Cynthia E. (Bart) Cochran; great-grandchildren, Benjamin N. (Brittany) Cochran, and Nicole E. Cochran, step grandsons; Jon (Colleen) Nation, and Paul Nation, step great-grandchildren; Jackie, Sarah, and Maria, and several loving nieces and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Verna; brother, W. Hubert Robertson; half-brother, James Robinson and five sisters, Vera, Lera, Lecta, Ruth, and Lora, and half-sister Maude (Robinson).
The family would like to thank Dr. Newlin and the staff at Heartland for all the care and kindness they showed Sam and his family.
