Anita "Penny" Amos' Obituary
Anita Louise Amos, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in Decatur, IL. She was born on January 15, 1941, in Peoria, IL, to John and Louise Boyer. She was lovingly known as Nana to her six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. To everyone else, she was known as “Penny”.
She was an amazing woman who was full of love for her family and friends. When her grandchildren and great-grandchildren entered her home, she would light up with the biggest smile and brightest eyes that expressed exactly how her heart felt when she saw them.
Penny had an awesome sense of humor and a sharp wit. She made friends wherever she went. Even though the last couple of years were full of health challenges, she always kept a positive attitude. She never lost her faith in God and was often referred to as “Sunshine” by those who had the pleasure of spending time with her.
She worked as a Community Center organizer and later as a claims adjuster for Country Companies in her former hometown of Sparta, IL. She participated in the Sparta Community Chorus, belonged to a singing group that would entertain residents at nursing facilities, and was a faithful member of the Greenmount Road Church of Christ in Bellville, IL, and later of Decatur, IL. She had a love of travel and was blessed to have visited Europe several times, Jamaica, Hawaii, and all across the continental United States.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Barry Amos; daughter, Lisa Simmons; and one brother.
She is survived by: children, Jeff Amos and wife Michelle, Laurie Venus and husband Melvin; grandchildren, Mandy Wandro and husband Kerry, Jessica Brown and husband Dustin, Matthew Miller and wife Chelsey Harris, Joshua Amos, Zachary Miller and wife Ciara, Jenalee Capperino and husband David; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
The family of Penny Amos will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Greenmount Road Church of Christ in Bellville, IL, with an hour of visitation preceding.
