Arlene Carroll's Obituary
Arlene Norma Carroll, 95, of Decatur, IL went to her heavenly home and into the arms of Jesus on June 17, 2018 in her home, with loved ones at her side.
Arlene was born February 23, 1923 in Decatur, IL to Albert Ney Spitzer and Verna (Ashcraft) Spitzer, the oldest of two children. She married her former husband, Carney Emerson Carroll in 1942. He preceded her in death. Arlene graduated from Stephen Decatur High school in 1941. After graduation, Arlene worked at Mueller Company in Decatur, then became a full-time homemaker. Arlene loved to garden, can, sew, travel, and work on crafts and puzzles. Over the years, Arlene housed many family and friends in her home, which was a gathering place for birthdays, graduations and holidays. All were welcomed. She was known for her delicious homemade zucchini relish, oyster dressing, and Texas sheet cake.
Grateful for being a part of her legacy are her daughters; Beverly Whipple (Gary), Christine Carroll, both of Decatur, and Leanne Canaday (Scott) of Moweaqua; grandchildren Carol Geiler (Jay), Paul Shelton (Angie), Danny Whipple (Ina), Stacey Watts (Jeff), Stephen Whipple, Ric Witts, Lindsey Wiggins, Joseph Canaday (Nicole), Bekah Idle (Nick), Isaac Canaday (Mattie), Tim Canaday (Kristina); great grandchildren Eric and Jessica Shelton, Rileigh and Raegan Watts, Abby Whipple, Jolie and Parker Witts, Haelee, Drake, Brock, Dominic and Gavin Wiggins, Avery, Piper and Jace Canaday, Silas, Jack, Elliot, and Jonas Idle, Brooks, Eleanor, and Rowan Canaday.
Arlene joins her daughter, Barbara Carroll, her parents, Albert and Verna Spitzer, and brother, Marvin Spitzer in heaven.
Arlene was a member of LIFE Foursquare church in Decatur. She loved Jesus and had an unwavering faith in God. Her love, perseverance and friendship will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home from 10 – 11 AM Friday, June 22, 2018 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 11:15 AM at Graceland Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Dr. Wall, DMH Hospice staff, Becky, Ty, and Christine, and special in-home care givers, Debbie Fowler and Karen Kaylor.
