Barbara Jean Butts' Obituary
Barbara Jean Butts, 94, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away March 9, 2024.
Barbara was born in Decatur on December 3, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Almyra (Alexander) Hughes. She married Ronald Butts on June 3, 1950, in Decatur. Barbara was an administrative assistant for a local distribution company. In her spare time, she and Ronald enjoyed traveling. They took many trips to Europe as well as spending months at a time in their condo in Bonita Springs, Florida. She was an avid tennis player and enjoyed watching tennis and other sports. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, whom she cherished.
Barbara is survived by her husband Ronald; sons David (Janie) Butts of Decatur, Kenneth (Mary) Butts of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, Roger Butts of Decatur, and Steven (Melissa) Butts of Bonita Springs, Florida; brother Edwin Hughes of Texas; brother-in-law Bill Harnish; grandchildren Christopher (Laura) Butts, Alissa Butts, Erica (Brad) Abt, Jessica Butts, Grace (Gus) Olsen, John Butts, Dean (Cana) Butts, Bryan Butts, Shannon Bowers, Laura (Torrey Pollard) Butts, and Roy Butts; great-grandchildren Layla Butts, Evelyn Butts, Cameron Butts, Evan Abt, Cora Abt, Glen Olsen, Mary Ellen Olsen, Ivy Bowers, Sora Bowers, Kyler Pollard, and Winnona Pollard; nieces Debbie Boaz, Vera (Johnny) Holland, and Janie Harnish-Rast; and nephews John (Larisa) Hughes and Brad Harnish. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Hughes, and nieces Jill Adams and Kathy Anderson.
Funeral services for Barbara will be held on Thursday, March 14, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11am to 12pm, with the funeral service beginning at noon. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
