Barbara Anne "Smokey" Hamilton's Obituary
Barbara Anne “Smokey” Hamilton, of Decatur, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Nov. 11th, 1924 to the late Lyle & Anne Corrington, ne Cooper. World War II separated Barbara from her HS Sweetheart . Upon Decatur H.S. graduation , 1941, Barbara joined William E. Hamilton Sr. @ Reese Army AF Base, West Lubbock, Tx., becoming his Bride , 12/06/1943. Barb & Bill were married just short of 46 years , until Dad’s death 11/24/1986. He passed away Nov. 24th, 1986.
Barbara’s Professional working Career began quite happen stance,
One spring day Circa 1969,while browsing at “The Colonial Gift Shop”, she met the Co-Owners Archie & Emily Foster.
They were so impressed with Barb’s tastes & ideas , they offered her a Sales Consulting
Position on the spot, launching her sought after “Interior Decorating “ Insights .
After serious thought, Aug. 1974,the Hamilton Family established , “Hamilton Protective Coatings,Inc.”
Barbara became very active through the years & ultimately became the CEO, until the business closure 2004.
Surviving are her four sons, , William E. Jr.[Nancy], Prosperity, SC., Timothy L.[Sara], Decatur,Il.,
Jeffrey Carl[Shannon], Mooreville, NC., Christopher[Angie], Springfield,Mo., ; one daughter, Suzanne[Robert] Decatur,Il.
Twin sisters, Sandra[Bill] Hurt, & Wanda[Raino] Weatherford, of Springfield, Il.
20 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren & “That little girl,mini me” Aurora Lylee.
Mom, so looked forward to Family BBQ’s , always excited to visit all her beloved Grand & Great Grandchildren
learning their achievments & encouraging them.
She also fondly leaves behind her dear pets, Toby, her Siamese Cat, Rhubarb”OC”, her Calico Cat
& Archy the Tail Wagger Beagle.
Barbara was very artistic & creative, she was an excellent Chef ,whipping up supreme Suppers for all occasions & Baker,
Known for German Chocolate Cakes & Rhubarb Pies to die for. She also was a Master Gardener & competitive Bridge Player.
As time marched on failing heath reared its ugly head, initially beating Lung Cancer.
Mom became victim to Alzheimer’s & Lung Cancer came back.
Many health Professionals gave special care.
Mom wants her dear Daughter Suzanne & Daughters In Law, Nancy & Sara
to know their special care was appreciated & her love for them is eternal.
“Heaven Received a Special Valentine”.
Services will be held At Graceland Fairlawn funeral Home Sunday, Feb. 18th at 1 PM. w/ visitation at Noon.
Pastor Joel Ruppert will officiate.
Burial will be held at Lake Bank Cemetary , Latham,Il. Spring 2018.
