Young, Barbara Jean's Obituary
Barbara Jean Young, 92, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away January 5, 2025.
Barbara was born in Decatur on July 26, 1932, the daughter of John L. and Lily (Davis) Johnson. She married Henry Raymond Young in Decatur on April 4, 1953. He preceded her in death in 2008. Barbara’s greatest joy in life was doting on her family. She cherished the precious times that they shared, and her love for them will be long remembered. She was an avid couponer who exulted in finding deals that enabled her to give her family various useful household items. She enjoyed knitting and playing Bingo. She was kind and generous with her time as a volunteer. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church, and in her later years, she attended Tabernacle Baptist Church with her daughter.
Barbara is survived by her children Terry R. Young of Long Creek, IL, Carol A. (Larry) Stevens of Hannibal, MO, Tommy L. (Karen) Young of Millstadt, IL, and Connie (Jeff) Heinz of Forsyth, IL; sister Doris Hammel; grandchildren Jobeth Sweeney, Henry Young, Barbara A. Van Manen, Justin Young, Jennifer Watkins, Jeremy Young, Rex Goodman, Darci Goodman, and Megan Heinz; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings Genevieve, Johnny, James, Helen, Wanda, and Robert, and great-grandson Isaac Sweeney.
Funeral services for Barbara will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10am and will be followed by a funeral service at 11am. Entombment in Star of Hope Mausoleum will follow the service.
