Bennett Augustus Wilkins' Obituary
Bennett Augustus Wilkins, 78, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away April 17, 2023, at HSHS St. Mary’s Hospital.
Bennett was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, on August 2, 1944, the son of Bird and Opal (Kell) Wilkins. After graduating high school, he began working for Mueller Company in Decatur, a career that lasted 47 years until his retirement. Bennett married Lorna Weiffenbach on September 3, 1971 in Decatur.
Bennett was a wonderful provider for his family. He was devoted to taking care of his yard and his dog. He was very mechanically gifted, and he could fix anything that was broken. He spent hours and hours working in his garage, where he kept various vehicles, including his beloved motorcycles. He was a member of West Side Church of the Nazarene in Decatur, where he was baptized.
Bennett is survived by his wife Lorna; children Fred (Rhonda Fisher) Weiffenbach, Brenda Adams, Becky (Todd) Williams, Scott Wilkins, and Richard (Suzanne) Wilkins; brother Darrell (Patty) Wilkins; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Allen, daughter Jeanette, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 daughters-in-law.
Visitation for Bennett will be held from 9am to 10am Saturday, April 22, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow, beginning at 10am. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service.
