Bernard L. Bachstein's Obituary
Decatur-Bernard L. Bachstein, 84, of Decatur passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at McKinley Court with his family at his bedside.
A graveside service to celebrate the life of Bernard will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Camp Butler National Cemetery, in Springfield, Illinois. Military honors provided by the U.S Navy. Interment will take place following the service. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Bernard was born August 23, 1926 in Decatur, Illinois the son of Buck and Margaret (Bruckman) Bachstein. Bernard proudly served his country during WWII in the Navy aboard the U.S.S Hoggatt Bay. He was the past President of the Decatur Genealogy Society, and the Barn Colony. He married Lowanda Hazlewood February 23, 1951.
Bernard leaves to cherish his memory wife; Lowanda, daughters; Teresa (Teri) Tibbs of Cisne, and Shari T. Goodfield and husband Alan of Springfield and cousin; Bill Bachstein of Decatur, 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son; Michael Bachstein, 1 grandson, 1 brother, and 1 sister.
