Deckard, Betty Lynnette's Obituary
Betty Lynnette Deckard, 71, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away December 25, 2024, at home.
Betty was born in Kankakee, Illinois, on March 19, 1953, the daughter of Lorin and Ruby (Graham) Schorey. She married Robert “Don” Deckard on October 25, 1975, in Seymour, Illinois. Betty was an Early Childhood Intervention Specialist in Special Education. In her later years she was a full-time nanny for many different families. She played piano and organ for Faith Baptist Church and Salem Baptist Church. Her faith and her family were the most important things in her life. She loved her family dearly, and her role as mother and foster mother brought her great joy. She loved traveling, camping, fishing, and playing family games. Her kind, loving, and gentle spirit touched all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her husband Don; sons Joseph (Misty) Deckard of Atwood, IL and Benjamin Deckard of Decatur; daughter Emily Deckard of Salyer, CA; brothers Lowell (Naomi) Schorey of Hardin, KY, Lewis Schorey of Kansas City, MO, and Paul Schorey of Vietnam; sisters Dee Price of Colorado Springs, CO and Rebecca Howerter of Canton, IL; grandchildren Logan Deckard, Ethan Deckard, Kyndell Deckard, Kellan Croy, and Fiona Deckard; a host of nieces and nephews; and many beloved extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Andrew Darrell Deckard, parents-in-law Hardie and Pauline Deckard, brothers-in-law Ray Price and Roger Howerter, and foster son Jeremy Godden.
Services for Betty will be held on Thursday, January 2, at Faith Baptist Church in Decatur. Visitation will begin at 10am and will be followed by a funeral service at 11am. Entombment in the Star of Hope Mausoleum will follow the service.
