Betty J. Fletcher's Obituary
Betty J. Fletcher, 77, of Decatur passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015.
Betty Jean (Hall) Fletcher was born on November 15, 1937 in Clarksville, Tennessee; the daughter of Nellie Mae and Earl Hall. Betty graduated from Clarksville High school at the top of her class. She earned a scholarship to Austin Peay University. It was there that Betty met Jim Fletcher at a college dance. Jim said Betty was the “prettiest girl in the room”. They married on May 1, 1956 and raised four daughters.
Betty loved spending time with her seven grandchildren and attended as many of their events as possible. Betty was very active in a number of organizations. As a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur, she served on the Finance Board, the Ada Tharp Circle, and on several other church committees. Betty was also a member of American Baptist Women, PEO Chapter MR, Junior Welfare Association, the Decatur Chorale, the DMH Auxiliary, and All State’s.
Betty loved to travel anywhere and everywhere and especially loved her many trips to Florida. She was the perfect tour guide for her family and friends. Betty was a voracious reader and loved all types of music. She and Jim could really cut a rug on the dance floor. She loved the movies and going to the theatre and all manner of performing arts.
Betty was a wonderful cook and no one could match her pecan pies. Betty lit up every room she entered with her beautiful smile and vibrant personality. Betty will always be remembered for her deep faith in God and her service to His Church. Betty’s most important contribution was her devotion to her family, friends, and anyone in need.
Betty is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Jim Fletcher, her four daughters; Terry (Bryan) Mikeworth, Tina Monroe, Cheryl (Louis) Bailey, and Carla (Rob) Comerford. Seven grandchildren: Tyler Mikeworth, Andrew Monroe, Clayton Bailey, Evan Comerford, Justin Mikeworth, Colleen Bailey, and Maggie Comerford, brother Larry Hall, her loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, her sisters-in-law, and the rest of her close extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tom Hall.
