Betty Joan Gile's Obituary
Decatur-Betty Joan 'Flashy' Gile, 81, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2012 in Imboden Creek Living Center.
Services to celebrate Betty's life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Family requests St. Louis Cardinal or University of Illinois attire. Burial with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Meals on Wheels, Homeward Bound, or the Decatur Public Library.
Betty was born November 1, 1931 in Concordia, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Floy (Miles) Chartier. She graduated from Concordia High School. She was previously employed as an office manager at Cousin Fred's where she also ran the lawn and garden center. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, feeding the birds and squirrels, reading, and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. She married Glenn L. Gile July 5, 1949. He preceded her in death October 1, 2005.
She leaves behind her daughter Lisa Edwards and husband Russ of Argenta, sons Mike Gile and wife Cathy of Tracy, California and Ken Gile and wife Carolyn of Champaign, brother Loren Chartier and wife Joyce of Enterprise, Kansas, grandchildren Jennifer Gile, Amy Gile, Bradley Gile, Julia Edwards, Sarah Edwards and husband Adam, Mary Kate Krouse, and Elizabeth Gile, five great-grandchildren, and special friends and good neighbors Barb Clark and Gloria Vick both of Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Roger Chartier, and special friends and good neighbors Dick Vick and Louie Clark.
