Betty Jean Hughes' Obituary
Betty Jean Hughes, 88, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2013 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Betty was born on March 18, 1925 in Mattoon the daughter of James William Clifford and Edith Evelyn (WellBaum) Rowland. She was a retired press operator for Grigoleit. She was a member of Northwest Christian Church and the Neighborhood Luncheon Group. She enjoyed camping in her younger years, spending time with her family and her pets. She married Robert Hughes on July 14, 1957 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1995.
Surviving are her son, Raymond Swank (Karen Warnick) of Mt. Zion; daughter, Connie Gosnell (Emmett) of Bethany; sisters, Eileen Harrington (Dean Shipman) of Sullivan; Wilma Alexander of Mt. Zion; Wanda Vaughn (Bobby) of Decatur; brothers, Robert Rowland (Eileen) of Colorado Springs, CO; James Rowland of Mattoon; brothers-in-law, Calvin Gibbons of Sullivan; Robert McNulty of Decatur; grandchildren, Scott Scribner (Rhonda) of Decatur; Raymond Swank II of Decatur; Kelly Piercy (David) of King, NC; and great-grandchildren, Julia Piercy, Alex Piercy, and Ryan Scott Piercy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother; William Rowland, and sisters; Donna Lampe, Martha Louise McNulty, Norma Sarver, and Linda Gibbons.
Service to celebrate Betty’s life will be 10 AM Thursday September 19, 2013 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Davis officiating. Visitation will be 5 -7 PM Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Macon County Animal Shelter.
