Betty Jean Mathes' Obituary
Betty Jean Mathes, 91, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away December 31, 2023, at Fair Havens Senior Living Center.
Betty was born in Herington, Kansas, on August 21, 1932, the daughter of John and Marie (Brunner) Schmidt. She married James Harrison Mathes Sr. in 1976. She worked as a medical secretary for St. Mary’s Hospital. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafting with her friends.
Betty is survived by her daughter Brenda (David) Scallions of Tovey, Illinois; grandson Brian (Bernadette Lyons) Scallions of Tovey, Illinois; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one sister, and granddaughter Belinda Scallions.
Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Betty. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 11, in Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home.
