Betty Jean Piper's Obituary
Forsyth-Betty Jean Piper, 86, of Forsyth, passed away 4:30 a.m. Monday, May 9, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Betty's life will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the funeral home. Entombment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be at the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church, Decatur, or to Cunningham Children's Home, 1301 N. Cunningham Ave. Urbana, IL, 61802.
Betty was born December 20, 1924 in Middletown, Ohio, the daughter of Earl E. and Helen Ruth (Geach) Grant. She graduated from Middletown High School in 1942 and Nothwestern University in 1946. She worked in the banking field before marrying Harlow H. Piper on May 7, 1949. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur, where she served on various committees, as a Sunday school teacher, as a member and past president of the Women's Society of Christian Service, and she supported missions. She was a past board member of Cunningham Children's Home in Urbana and a member of the Macon County Homemakers Extension and AAUW.
She leaves behind her son, Richard Piper and wife Heeju of O'Fallon, granddaughter, Amanda Piper and husband Michael Hasse of Chicago, brother-in-law, Bradley Piper and wife Jean of Gold Canyon, AZ, two nieces and their families, and one nephew.
She was reunited in Heaven with her husband, parents, and infant daughter, Beverly
