Betty Jane Pollock's Obituary
Betty Jane Pollock, 99, of Decatur, Illinois, died on December 13, 2022 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL. No Services will be held. Betty was born on September 21, 1923, in Wabash, Indiana to Elbert and Emma Warren. She married Marshall Pollock of Decatur, Illinois on December 30, 1944, at Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia. They were married for 73 years prior to Marshall’s death on February 19, 2017.
Betty graduated Stephen Decatur High School in 1941. During the World War II years, while Marshall was in the military service, she worked at Sangamon Ordinance in Illiopolis, Illinois and Houdaille Hershey in Decatur. When Marshall was called back to active duty with the Marines in 1951 during the Korean War, Betty and her son, Doug, moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, which is close to Camp Lejeune where Marshall was stationed.
Betty was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and served many years as the treasurer of the M&M Sunday School Class. She was an avid reader and liked working crossword puzzles, belonged to the GKE Garden Club and several bridge clubs. She was an avid sports fan, rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Illinois teams.
Betty is survived by her sons, Doug of Springfield, Illinois, David and his wife, Sheryl; grandchildren, Heather and Russell, 4 great grandchildren, all living in Virginia.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; brother, Burl; sisters, Doris (Sam) Kohr, Jean (Harry) Gast.
Betty will be missed by family members and friends and will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and selflessness.
