Betty Lou Thompson's Obituary
Decatur – Betty Lou (Dawdy) Mariner-Thompson, 95 of Altamont formerly of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Lutheran Care Center, Altamont, IL.
Betty was born July 28, 1928, in Hillview, IL, the daughter of Archie Earl Dawdy and Velma F. (Garner) Dawdy. A homemaker, Betty was a member of First General Baptist Church. She loved to crochet, knit, collect angels and create folk art. She married Alvis L. “Al” Thompson on February 14, 1975, in Decatur and he preceded her in death on August 6, 2016.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter Brenda Joyce Mariner, stepdaughter Janet Bacon, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Surviving are her children: John Mariner, Jr. (Phyllis) of Divernon; Archie “Bill” Mariner (Stephanie) of Colorado; Joe Mariner of Decatur, Vicky Jarvis (Mark) of Pekin; stepdaughter, Carol Kleister (Harold) of La Port, IN; stepdaughter, Katherine Tilson (Gary) of Davenport, IA; stepson, Ronald A. Thompson of Ft. Myers, Florida; stepdaughter, Judith K. Roberson (Lonnie) of Florida; 32 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter; sister, Judy Dawdy Mullins of Decatur; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 10 am until the service time of 11 am, Saturday November 25, 2023, at First General Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Macon County Memorial Park.
