Beverly A. Jackson's Obituary
Decatur- Beverly A. Jackson, 69, of Decatur, passed away peacefully at 6:14 pm Friday, October 30, 2009 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Memorial services to celebrate Beverly’s life will be 11:00 am Thursday, November 5, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Rachel Hacker officiating. The “Flight Home”ceremony will conclude services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kiwanianne Club of Decatur or the Homeward Bound Animal Shelter. Beverly was born on February 22, 1940 in Casey, IL the daughter of Theron and Edith (Arnold) Adkins. She graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She continued her education and graduated Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in education. She taught high school, in Clinton, IL, Martin, MI, middle school and high school in Belpre, OH. She retired from teaching in 1993 then returned to Decatur to be closer to her family and friends. She was then employed by Soy Capital Bank & Trust.
Beverly married Paul J. Jackson on September 22, 1998 in Cape Elizabeth, ME. Beverly was an active member of the Kiwanianne Club; through Kiwanianne, she volunteered at many R.S.V.P. organizations, as well as being a long time supporter of the Relay for Life and Race for the Cure. She was a member of the Decatur Commodore Bridge Club and the American Contract Bridge League; and had accumulated over 400 masterpoints. Beverly was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Beverly was also an avid reader and loved going to the movies with her sisters and friends. Since retirement, she enjoyed many trips and cruises with her husband and her sisters.
She leaves behind her husband: Paul, one son: Scott and Beth Boyer of Yarmouth, ME; one daughter: Connie Tuggle of Decatur, IL; one brother: Wayne Adkins of Clinton, IL; four sisters: Imogene and Phillip Hurt of Martinsville, IL, Roberta Gurley of Decatur, IL, Carolyn Hughes of Decatur, IL, Marsha and John Norman of Decatur, IL, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Beverly’s family was her passion.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, and one sister, Mary Letterly.
A special thank you to Dr. Dold, nurse Lydia and all the nurses and staff in the ICU at DMH. Their compassion and caring will long be remembered. Thank you also to Pastor Rachel of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
