Mrs. Kirk was born in Decatur on April 4, 1935, to Roy Dale Scott and Edith Corinne (Lichtenberger) Scott. She was wife and best friend to David R. Kirk for 47 years.
Mrs. Kirk graduated from Stephen Decatur H.S. in the Class of 1953. She retired from Illinois Bell after 30 years of service as a telephone operator and was a lifelong member of Grace United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kirk was preceded in death by her husband David R. Kirk; her parents; and many beloved pets over the years.
Surviving family members include daughters Cheryl Kirk (Christopher Lawson) of Naperville and Karen White (Claudell) of Decatur; brother Dale (Eleanor) Scott of Decatur; in-laws Diane and Robert Olivero and James and Diane Kirk. Grandchildren Brandi (Anthony) Canning, Ashley Bennett, Taylor Bennett, and Austin (Alyssa) Bennett; grand dogs Charlie and Hayley. Also, many loved nieces and nephews; dear family friend and “daughter” Diane Arnold.
What to say about our beloved mom as she rejoins our dad after these 18 years apart? She was our mama, our best friend, and, as we always told her, “the best mom in the whole world.” She was one of the nicest and sweetest people you’d ever hope to meet—always thinking of others, completely selfless, the center of our family. She loved animals, especially dogs, cats, birds, squirrels, and giraffes. There are no words to adequately express our gratitude for having our loving mother in our lives for over 60 years.
Papa, she is waiting for you at the East Gate of Heaven.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM, Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be 10 AM, Friday, November 22, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Graceland Cemetery.
