Bonnie Ruth James' Obituary
Bonnie Ruth James, 82, of Mattoon, IL, passed away at 1:35 A.M. on Wednesday (02-21-2024) in Odd Fellows Rebekah Home, Mattoon, IL.
Bonnie was born on October 21, 1941, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of James Elwin Organ and Zelma Maxine (Yates) Organ. She married Jack Wesley James on December 18, 1990, in Charleston, IL. He preceded her in death.
Bonnie was a member of First Baptist Church in Mattoon, IL, where she sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Moose and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Bonnie and her late husband Jack owned and operated James Stables. They trained and raced horses in the Illinois County Fair circuit. Bonnie enjoyed sewing and making t-shirts and sweatshirts that she sold at various craft shows. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed going to tournaments with her friends and teammates. Bonnie also enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago Bears and NASCAR.
She is survived by her three sons: Kenneth Eugene Steury and wife Andrea of Mattoon, IL; Richard Allan Steury and wife Lore of Blanchard, OK; and Patrick Lee Steury and wife Patricia of O’Fallon, IL; three stepchildren: David L. James of Missouri; Catherine S. James of Casey, IL; and Jill E. James of Charleston, IL.; one brother: Lynn Alan Organ of Pensacola, FL; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and her pride and joy was her dog Bridgette.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother James Organ.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
