Bruce R. Burtner's Obituary
Bruce R. Burtner, 80, of Decatur passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Bruce was born on April 2, 1937 in Evanston, IL the son of Robert Reese and Mary (Sanford) Burtner. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He loved to travel, auto and motorcycle racing, and going to air shows. He enjoyed his breakfast group. He married Helen Louise Opitz on January 25, 1964 in Chicago, IL.
Surviving are his wife; son, Matthew Burtner (Cheryl) of Daytona Beach, FL; Cheryl Herring (Alan) of Wesley Chapel, FL; Stephanie Wallace (Richard) of River Falls, WI; grandchildren, Steven, Aaron, Jonathan, Kayla, Jack, and Jeffrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Paul.
Service to celebrate Bruce’s life will be 11 AM Saturday August 12, 2017 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10-11 AM Saturday in the funeral home. Inurnment will be in the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorial are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
