Buda Verneta Seaton's Obituary
Buda Verneta Seaton, 86, of Decatur, IL passed away January 13, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Buda was born November 14, 1934 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Nathaniel and Mattie (Davis) Draw. She was educated in the Detroit Public School system where she graduated from Northwestern High School.
Before Buda moved to Decatur, IL, she was a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) at Providence Hospital in Detroit, MI. As a member of Maranatha Assembly of God, she loved crocheting prayer shawls and afghans to give as gifts. When she was the First Lady of Community Church of God, she directed the children and senior choirs, led the youth department and developed fundraising campaigns to send young adults to the Church of God National Youth Conventions. She also organized shopping trips for the ladies of Community Church of God.
In addition to serving her church, she enjoyed working as a crossing guard for Dennis Elementary School and was a foster parent to many children over the years. In 1991 Buda was awarded Foster Mother of the year from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services Decatur field office.
Buda was an avid scrabble player and masterfully taught her grandchildren how to play the game. She loved attending her grandchildren’s soccer games and violin concerts.
Surviving are her children, Verneta Seaton of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands, Donald D. Seaton III (Eveldora) of McMurray, PA, Jeffrey Seaton of Decatur, IL; sister, Gwendolyn Wicker of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren Jaquai Seaton, Quajai Seaton and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Cynthia B. Nelson, Carnell Draw, Mae Cunningham-Robinson, Elaine Reed, Dorothy Harbour, Rose Owens and grandson, Zia Larson.
A private service will be held at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home.
The burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
