Carl Linvel Mocabee's Obituary

Carl was born August 21, 1920 in Lovington the son of Ed and Clara Belle (Day) Mocabee. He was a farmer and real estate salesman. Incredibly handy with tools, he built many things and left a legacy behind him. He loved to dance, tinker, spend time with his family, and was always busy.
Carl married Mary Margaret Bresnan in 1947 and they had two children, Edward Mocabee and Mary Ellen (Mocabee) Burt. Mary Margaret died in 1989. Later he moved to Decatur and shared his life for many years with his second love, Maxine Gibbs. She died in 2007. He was blessed to share her daughter Sandy Odell, and found much love and support with her family.
Carl was a Boy Scout leader and stout supporter of his churches St. Mary’s in Lovington and then St. Thomas in Decatur. His dedication to his family was immense. But he often stated the most important thing he ever did was serve in the U.S. Army during World War II with Company F 127th Infantry in Luzon-Philippines-New Guinea. He received a Silver Star, Bronze Service Star and Purple Heart for his dedication. He was a member of American Legion Post 429.
Carl was a friend to everyone and had a huge capacity to love and share.
Carl leaves behind his daughter Mary Ellen (Lynn) Burt, grandson James (Paula) Elliott, granddaughter Jennifer (Steven) Ventress, and great-grandchildren Zachary and Brandon Elliott and Grayson and Olivia Ventress. Later in life he gained step-grandchildren James Burt and Shannon Brandon and step-great-grandchildren Breann and Ashton Burt and Kevin and Abby Brandon.
