Carl Slaughter's Obituary
DECATUR – Carl (Freddie) Slaughter, 83, of Decatur, IL, departed on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at St Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.
On Thursday, July 8 at 1:00 p. m. Carl (Freddie) will be laid to rest in Graceland Fairlawn Cemetery with military rites in Decatur, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p. m. at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home prior to the service.
Carl was born in Shawnneetown, IL, the son of Cyrus Carl and Frankie (Portee) Slaughter, on October 25, 1937. He served in the United States Army after enlisting at age 17. He married Fannie Cook on December 30, 1982, but they were together for 50 years. Carl worked for Wagner’s Casting for 33 years and retired in 1997. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, the blues and loved his motorcycles. But most of all he loved spending time with his family.
Carl leaves to cherish his fond memories, his loving wife, Fannie of Decatur; sister Eva Jean (Boast) Sain, sister-in-law Phyllis Slaughter his children Debra (Vincent) Barbee, Corlis McSpadden, Cortney Jumper, Clarence (Betty) Taylor, Clara Lamb, Patricia Foster, Ronnie Kinnon, Jeffrey Kinnon, Cathey Kinnon, Sonia Kinnon, Cyrus Kinnon, Ciera Kinnon, honorary son, Larry Farmer, special Aunt Tiny, a host of grand, great grand, and great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents, sisters Irene Guthrie, Ruthie McDougal, and Betty Taylor and brothers Thomas Slaughter and Danny Slaughter.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Mary’s Hospital for all the care and compassion given to Carl.
