Carla Ann Oliver's Obituary
Carla A. Oliver, 76, of Decatur, IL passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday May 7, 2020 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born in Decatur, the daughter of Leo and Lorena Gregory.
Her passion was her family. She helped raised her first granddaughter, Samantha, and watched her grow up and become a mom. She loved watching her granddaughter, Lexy, play softball, perform theatre plays, and enjoyed attending her school award ceremonies. She watched over her great-granddaughters, Londyn and Paris, as they painted her pretty pictures and enjoyed “hair and nail salon” days.
Carla was in the National Honor Society and graduated from Lakeview High School in June, 1961. After high school, she attended Beauty School and graduated at the end of 1961.
Carla married Thomas Oliver on November 26, 1964. They shared 55 wonderful years together.
Carla was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker for many years. After her children were grown, she worked at a friend’s small family market for a few years. She then moved on and worked at Walmart for 24 years, until she retired 3 years ago.
She leaves behind her devoted husband Tom; children Steve, Todd, and Missy; granddaughters Samantha Oliver and Lexy Oliver; great-granddaughters Londyn and Paris, great-grandson “Junior”; brother Wade (Onda) Gregory and several nieces and nephews.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents and daughter Christina.
Mom was the sweetness, kindness, strongest, beautiful, smart, amazing and gentle soul that you would ever know. She always put her family above her own needs and I THANK HER from the bottom of my heart, for being my best friend, my mentor, and loving me and my family unconditionally. I am SO grateful God chose me to be her daughter.
Even though our hearts are broken by her passing, we have peace knowing she is no longer in pain and is with her heavenly father to watch over us.
A special THANKS to Dr. Wade at Cancer Center for taking such great care of our Mamo!
Private family services and burial will be held at 2 pm Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Please respect the social distancing guidelines. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
