Carlos E. Catron's Obituary
Carlos (Carl/Kickie), E Catron of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Springfield and Decatur, Illinois began his final journey as he passed peacefully in his sleep early Monday, October 30, at the age of 87.
Memorial service will be held on November 20 at 10:30 AM, at LIFE Foursquare Church, 2954 W. Ash Avenue, Decatur, Illinois, with visitation at 10 AM.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Shirley Brandon Catron, formerly of Decatur, Illinois, currently of Fort Myers, Florida, daughter Cheryl (Larry) Komnick of Cape Coral, Florida, son David (Lori) Catron, formerly of Decatur, Illinois and currently of Greenville, South Carolina. He leaves his five grandchildren: Elizabeth Clark, Kathryn (Alex) Wilborne and first of four great-grandchildren Tristen, Grandson Eric (Julie) Catron, great grandchildren Anna and Isaac of Franklin Tennessee, granddaughter Karli (David) Stevens and great grandchild, Mabel of Greenville, South Carolina and grandchild Kayli (Kevin) Albert of Santa Cruz, California. Also surviving are his brothers Lawrence Catron of Springfield, Illinois, Jack (Nancy) Davison of Castle Rock, Colorado. Sisters Arlyce Fromm of Rochester, Illinois and Leota Cook. Carl was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Faye Corn Catron and Henry’s second wife Nelly Irene Davison Catron, also brothers Arthur and Kelly and sisters Velma Catron Johnson, and Phyllis Catron Lanphier, as well as extended family, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carl was born January 30, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, IL, the son of Henry Hardy Catron and Jesse Faye Horn Catron. After his mother’s death in 1945, his father married Nellie Irene Dooley Davidson.
Carl grew up on a dairy farm near Mechanicsburg, after graduating from Lanphier High School, he served his country proudly in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Carl and Shirley married while he was in the army on February 1, 1949.
After 38 1/2 years, Carl retired from AT&T as marketing manager for downstate Illinois. Enjoying sporting events filled his days, golf was his main interest and he was involved in helping form the Illinois bell golf league at Nelson Park as one of his community involvements. He was past president of Noon Lions Club, member of Golden K Kiwanis Club, Decatur Traffic /Parking Commission as well as being an Army Veteran of the Occupational Services during the Korean conflict. The family enjoys recalling memories spent with Papaw at holiday times, dinners throughout the year, birthday gatherings, golf cart rides through the yard, and berry picking.
