Carol P. Dugan's Obituary
Decatur-Carolyn Patricia Dugan, 77, of Decatur, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011, in her home with her family by her side. The sky was a vibrant powdered blue, intensified by the brightness of the sun that had lied dormant for the past few days. Only a dusting of white painted clouds lined the horizon. The Heavens truly opened up to receive her.
Services to celebrate Carol's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2011, in the chapel of Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to DMH Home Healthcare. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Carol was born September 24, 1933, at home on Eddy Rd. in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Claris Vernon and Muriel A. (Duffy) Johnson. She married her love, Navy serviceman Patrick Donald Dugan, on June 2, 1953, in St. Louis, MO. He passed before her on November 15, 2005.
Carol was grace, poise, wisdom, and comfort through any storm. She was strong-willed and a fighter. Death may be inevitable, but she told cancer how it was to be and on Saturday, as the sun was rising, she took her final breath.
Her love for her family was only rivaled by her love of life. No one's journey is ever smooth and easy, but with every bump or swerve in the road, she came out stronger and more enriched on the other side.
She leaves behind her children, Michael David Dugan and wife Cristene of Decatur, Linda Carole Goodall and husband Richard of Springfield, Kathleen Patricia Landgrebe of Mt. Zion, and Jeffery Scott Dugan and wife Lori of Decatur, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother, Richard 'Dick' Johnson of Maryland, and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She has passed after her parents, step-father Andrew Mastalski, and siblings, Vernon 'Buck', Robert 'Bob', and Shirley.
She has not left any of us. She is just moving on to a new journey, one that does not have cancer or pain. One where everyone she has lost along the way, has been waiting for her. A place where she is no longer limited by an earthly body but where she can truly fly with the angels.
Here in this world, hearts will ache, but now she never has to feel an ache again. We know she is in a better place, and we believe she found peace on earth that she can take with her.
