Carol Jeanne Greene, 71, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away October 11, 2024, in her home. Carol was born in Benld, Illinois, on February 14, 1953, the daughter of Joseph and Sandria (Schuster) Brabec. She married John Viskup in 2 Read Obituary
I worked with Carol extensively as my 20 years at Staley/T&L overlapped with the first 20 years of her career. I always found her to be knowledgeable, dedicated, and direct. All traits I admire. She was mostly known as the manager of the wastewater systems in the plant but when PC's started to be widely available, she took on the task of being the first IT person for the Decatur plant. I met Carol many years ago on 3rd shift . I was assigned the job of starting up #3 flash dryer in 26 bldg . To my surprise the operator assigned to work that night was a women. We spent the night taking the merco apart and cleaning it after some time working together we got the drier running. The important thing to remember about Carol is that she was the first women to become an operator in an all male environment. Through the years she continued be a part of the plant and a friend . Carol and I were 1st cousins. I was only privileged to meet her twice. Once when we were young, and again in 2022 when we reconnected at a Brabec family reunion. I send my condolences to her son, close family and friends. I wish circumstances had allowed us to share more memories.
