Carol Jean Poland's Obituary
Carol Jean Poland, 86, of Decatur, IL, passed away at 1:40 P.M. on Thursday (01-04-2024) in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Carol was born on July 29, 1937, in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Wilburn C. Tarter and Letha E. (Shepard) Tarter. She married Lyle Dean Poland on December 27, 1988, in Decatur, IL. He survives her after 35 years of marriage.
Carol was an elementary school teacher in the Macon Illinois School District for over 30 years until her retirement in 1992. Carol was a member of A.D.K. and the Red Hat Society. She also loved to go Clogging and Square Dancing. Carol and Lyle met each other while Square Dancing.
She is survived by her husband Lyle of Decatur, IL; children: Charles William Harris and wife Kathy of Decatur, IL, Debra Larsen of Decatur, IL, Diana Harris of Decatur, IL, Steven Poland and wife Lynn Wollenberg of Decatur, IL, Thomas Poland of Phoenix, AZ, Margaret Verellen and husband Philip of Flagstaff, AZ, and Susan Helle and husband Paul of Elgin, IL.; brother: David Tarter and wife Carol of Mt. Zion, IL; grandchildren: Amanda Hoffman, Kristen Larsen, Rachel Poland, Matthew Poland, Sarah Poland, Laura Renna, Jesse Verellen, Eric Verellen, Beth Suyat, Gordon Helle, Chelsey Harris, Travis Carnes, Kathy Miller, Danny Tinney, and William Tinney; and many great grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, daughters Julie Tinney, Lynne Poland and one grandchild Joey Tinney.
A Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday (01-11-2024) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. The burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
